(Bombastic) Lover's (Side)Eye Brooch

2026

Bronze, Copper, Cab, Sterling Silver: Chasing and Repousse, Fabricated

47mmx26mmx16mm

My envisioning of the "lover's eye", a Georgian era jewelry trend inspired by the Prince of Wales and the romeo-and-juliet-esque affair with Maria Fitzherbert. The lover's eye was a love token featuring a watercolor painting of an eye encircled by jewels and an ornate frame.

In lieu of watercolor, this brooch uses chasing and repousse and is a self-portrait of the artist’s eye with a loose found cabochon pupil. The stone moves freely transforming the eye from an intense gaze, to a bombastic side eye, to a criminal offensive side eye.
